From Student Visa to Permanent Residency

British couple Emily and Graeme from New South Wales were recently granted Permanent Residency in Australia.

This is their story!

Why Australia?

The couple first visited Australia in 2009 and were attracted by the beach lifestyle on offer here.

“We travelled around Aus in 2009 and loved it so much we wanted to move back here permanently. We made the move back in Jan 2011.”

At the time of applying for Permanent Residency, Graeme held a Student Visa and Emily was named on the visa as his de facto partner.

Emily is an experienced Training and Development Professional, so the couple made the decision to apply for a 186 Employer Sponsored Visa through her employer.

A friend recommended True Blue Migration and our Lead Agent Maryanne oversaw their case.

As part of the visa process, Emily needed to have her skills assessed by VETASSESS. VETASSESS is Australia’s largest vocational education and training assessment provider.

Preparing for a skill assessment can be stressful and expensive. It’s important to get it right first time, because any set-back could delay your visa lodgement. Depending on your occupation, a skill assessment may take months to come through and your visa cannot be lodged beforehand.

Luckily for Emily and Graeme, Maryanne has heaps of experience in this area and was able to offer expert guidance along the way, making the process as painless as possible.

For Emily, assistance with her skill assessment was one of the main benefits of using a Registered Migration Agent to lodge her application.

“[The visa process was] stressful at times, but [we were] glad to have contact with Maryanne to get updated.”

Another key benefit of working with a Migration Agent was that “[They ensured] documentation was correct”.

Emily received a positive result from VETASSESS back in May 2014 and Maryanne lodged the couple’s visa application shortly afterwards.

Emily and Graeme’s Permanent Residency Visa was granted in September 2014, with Maryanne delivering the good news.

According to Emily, being granted PR is an “amazing” feeling and the couple plan to remain in Australia for the foreseeable future.

True Blue Migration wishes Emily and Graeme all the best!
