Skilled Work Experience Points for Skilled Visas
If you are interested in a skilled visa (subclasses 189, 190 and 491), you’ll need to know how many points you can claim. Two of the categories you get points in is based on how many years of skilled employment experience you have in your occupation, both within Australia and overseas.

You’ll get points for your experience in skilled employment in the occupation you are applying for in two categories – experience within Australia and experience overseas. Importantly, this is considered within the last 10 years, so your work experience must be recent.
Importantly, the maximum number of points that can be awarded is 20, this means that even if you score more than 20 combined points for your employment experience only 20 points will be awarded.
